The Oldest Wedding Cake In The World

oldest wedding cake

The icing’s gone brown and there’s a big crack in the side, but this wedding cake is in pretty good shape – considering it was baked 113 years ago.

oldest wedding cake

Made in 1898, this is the oldest complete wedding cake in the world. There is a noticeable crack in its side due to vibrations from a bomb blast during World War II.

Tests with a syringe have shown the rich fruit cake inside the ornate icing is still moist! Can you believe it!

  1. I guess, when you have fruitcake, you don't have to worry about freezing the top tier to cut on your 1 year anniversary! It will preserve itself! Very interesting....

  2. Wow! Pretty amazing that it has been preserved so well! It reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine finds & eats the cake in Peterman's office fridge, only later to discover it was a cake he won at auction that was actually from King Edward's wedding! Funny!

  4. Very interesting, it wouldn't last five minutes with me, wonder what it'd taste like now?

  6. Reminds me of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations--Miss Havisham, the old spinster who was jilted at the altar, kept her wedding cake in the middle of the table in her house. Never thought this was possible.
